TAMALE CAMPUS A. GUSSS Hostel

• GUSSS Hostel is one of the main accommodations for UDS students.
• Room types include 2-in-1, 3-in-1, and 4-in-1 configurations.
• GUSSS Hostel is actively recommended for freshers (both men and women) at least on the Tamale campus.

B. Sagnarigu Hall

• A residential hall on the Dungu Campus, with about 200 bed capacity.
• Room types are mainly 4-in-1 configuration.

NYANKPALA CAMPUS A. Union Hall

• All male hall; part of traditional halls in Nyankpala.
• Room type is 4-in-1 configuration.

B. Jeddah Hall

• Mixed hall with 2-in-1 configuration.

C. Nyankpala Hall

• Mixed hall with 4-in-1 configuration.

D. Graduate Hall

• All female with 2-in-1 configuration.

E. Clinical Hostel (Tamale Teaching Hospital)

• The hostel is associated with the teaching hospital campus (for medical/clinical students), with a capacity reportedly around 80 beds.

Accommodation allocation (for on-campus halls/hostels) is handled through online reservation. Students must log into the accommodation portal using their Unique Identification Number (UIN) to book a room.

Off-Campus Housing

Private hostels and shared apartments are available around the campuses. DIRA can provide a verified list of recommended hostels with reasonable rent and safety standards to students upon request.

Lease Arrangements

Students are encouraged to sign written tenancy agreements and avoid cash payments without receipts.

Utilities and Internet

Electricity and water charges may be included in rent or paid separately. Internet access is available in some hostels and university libraries.

Weather and Climate Information

Ghana has a tropical climate characterised by warm temperatures throughout the year. Average daily temperatures generally range between 24°C and 32°C, with higher temperatures occurring during the dry season. The country experiences two main seasons: a dry season, influenced by the Harmattan winds, and a rainy season, with varying intensity across regions. Humidity is higher in the southern parts of the country and relatively lower in the north.

Tamale and Northern Ghana

UDS campuses lie in the Guinea Savannah ecological zone. The area experiences:

• Hot daytime temperatures, particularly between March and May, which may exceed 35°C.
• A single rainy season, typically from May to October.
• A cooler, dry Harmattan period between November and February, with dusty winds and lower night-time temperatures.

Students are advised to dress lightly, stay well hydrated, and take basic precautions during the hot and dry periods.
