UDS Football Team Bounces Back With 2-1Win After an Initial Slip

A narrow 2-1 victory over Kenya’s Kisii University has done a great deal to improve the sense that the UDS team from Ghana can go on and win a gold medal at the ongoing Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) games in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Boabab boys from UDS were better than their Kenyan counterparts for most of the game, and when the referee blew the final whistle, it was the UDS boys who bagged all three points courtesy a brace from Martin Akolgo at the beginning of both halves.

It was a result that was needed for UDS after they slipped to a shock 2-1 defeat to Makerere University in their opening fixture.

In the second match, the UDS team would then comprehensively outplay their opponents, with Mustapha, Mohammed and Martin creating the best chances for the Team from Northern Ghana.

However, an inability to convert these chances held UDS back from securing what would have been a goal festival.  This gave some confidence to the Kissii University lads who hit back by redeeming a goal deep into the second half.

The technical team UDS led by Coaches Tanko and Mubashir, made some changes that ensured that the Boabab lads held on for a 2-1 win.

Victory for UDS sets up the group in a balanced manner, with Makerere University leading the table with 4 points followed by UDS and the University of Zambia with three points each respectively with Kissii University taking the last spot on the table with just 1 point.

UDS comes up against the University of Zambia in the final group game on Wednesday.
