Dr. Damba  Yahaya
DR. DAMBA YAHAYA SENIOR LECTURER DEPARTMENT OF BIOTECHNOLOGY AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY FACULTY OF BIOSCIENCE NYANKPALA Campus
Background

 Dr. Damba Yahaya is a Plant Breeder and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biotechnology and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Biosciences, and currently serves as the examination coordinator /officer for the department, Faculty academic board member, and representative of the faculty to the Faculty of Agriculture, food and consumer sciences academic board member and TTFPP District Coordinator for the Bosomtwe District Assembly in the Ashanti region for the 2023/2024 academic year. He has also served as TTFPP District Coordinator for Mion district and Asunafo north municipal assemblies for the 2014/2015 and 2020/2021 academic years respectively.  Dr Yahaya joined the university for development studies In January.  2013 has over 11 years of work experience as a community service worker, teacher and researcher in the University.  He has over 12 refereed article publications and attended several international and local conferences.

With regard to community services I served as an assembly member for the Cheyohi electoral area in the Kumbungu district for over 12 years, Kumbungu Senior High School Old Students Association (KOSA), parent-teacher association chairmen for Tamale Technical Institute and Shalom Academy International School, a member of the northern regional PTA executive body ad association ad groups which are development groups.

The area of his teaching covers plant breeding, molecular genetics, plant physiology and signaling, fundamentals of tissue culture, plant biotechnology, and Plat Anatomy and physiology.

His research interest includes the development of drought tolerance legume crops, the development of cowpea varieties for the changing climate, the development of Jack Jean varieties for the changing climate, the development of Kersting groundnut varieties for the changing climate, and the improvement of cowpea grains in terms of protein and carbohydrate content to be used in poultry feed preparation. His current professional slogan is “Sustainable food Security through legume production for good health and sustainable economic development”

He is motivated to provide 

  1. Academic training and counseling services to students and clients in the biotechnology industry.
  2. Influence government policies and programmes through community services and research in sustainable food production
  3. lead in the campaigns for sustainable food security production in the northern region.

 
He has been involved in projects/grants, funded by Borlaug Higher Education for Agricultural Research and Development and the USAID Feed the Future project.
