Background

Hello! This is Dr Alhassan Siiba, an interdisciplinary teacher and researcher whose research interests revolve around health, transportation, sustainability, and climate-resilient communities. Dr Siiba obtained his PhD in Health Studies from the Queen’s University, Canada, MSc in Transport Planning from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom, and BSc in Human Settlement Planning from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana.

He is particularly interested in exploring how the built environment impacts active transportation (walking and cycling) as well as how climate change and food systems globalization interact with human health, not least the management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Based on mixed methods designs, he seeks to deepen understanding of the unique health and transportation challenges in LMICs and inform policy and practice for sustainable development. 

Dr Siiba has hands-on experience in mentorship on research proposal writing and conducting empirical research and systematic reviews using Covidence. His mentorship philosophy is anchored in collaboration and inclusivity toward developing committed future leaders for sustainable development.

Prior to joining the UDS, he received advanced academic and professional training in Ghana, the United Kingdom, and Canada, offering him broad global perspectives on research and teaching. Before commencing his PhD, he also held a senior administrative position with the National Identification Authority (NIA), Ghana, and served as a consultant with Training, Research, and Networking for Development (TREND), Ghana. At the UDS, he is committed to advancing excellence in research, teaching, learning, mentorship, and community development.
