UDS SRC Donates 5 Solar Powered Street Lights to The School of Medicine

The Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University for Development Studies (UDS), led by the President, Mr. Magnus Zolideme Dogoli, has donated five Solar powered street lights to the Medical School. The donation aims at improving on the lighting system in the school especially, in the evenings.

The streets lights were received on behalf of the school of medicine, by Prof. Gideon K. Helegbe, the Vice-dean of students.

The SRC President, Mr Dogoli said the SRC has a role to play in the development of the University through advocacy for the needs of students to be attended to. He added that however, it is also incumbent on every good leader to spot a problem and find a pragmatic solution to same. He said the need for security lights on campus has become necessary in order to discourage criminals from taking advantage of the darkness to commit crime. He said the SRC was specifically concerned about the poor lighting system at the UDS clinical campus at the Tamale Teaching Hospital and wished to contributing to finding a lasting solution to the problem.

The UDS central SRC has procured 30 solar powered street lights out of which 5 have so far been donated to the School of Medicine. Another 5 will be mounted on the football field while the remaining 20 will be mounted at strategic positions around the Tamale Campus.

The Vice-Dean of Students, Prof. Gideon K. Helegbe, said it was his wish that subsequent SRC executives would continue to build on the initiative of helping to light up the various campuses. Mr. Edward Broni B. (Deputy Registrar) recommended more installations of solar powered street light on campus.
