Management To Set Up A Committee To Investigate The Collapse Of Building At The City Campus – Vice-Chancellor Announces

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Seidu Al-hassan has announced that Management is set to form a committee to investigate the collapse of the six-storey building at the city campus.

The Vice Chancellor made this announcement during a visit by the Management Team of the University to the site.

The building, which was under construction, collapsed on the night of Saturday, May 6, 2023, after a heavy downpour. It was intended to serve as lecture halls for students upon completion.

The Vice-Chancellor intimated that an audit of the other six-storey building which is still standing, would be conducted to ensure its structural integrity.

Prof. Seidu Al-hassan who led the team to inspect the site, said there are "many lessons to learn" from the collapse of the building, adding that the Management team would take "steps in a determined way" after the investigators complete their work.

Some of those who were with the Vice-Chancellor on the inspection tour included the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Felix Kofi Abagale, the Registrar, Mr. Nurudeen Issah Abubakar, the Director of Finance, Dr. Mahmmed Hardi Shaibu, the Director of Works and Physical Development, Ing. Samuel Abiku, and the Director of Procurement, Mr Duke Fredua Agyeman.

Others were the University Librarian, Mr. Edwin Thompson, the Acting Director of Internal Audit, Mr. Abdulai Mohammed, the Dean of the Graduate School, Prof. Kweku Amagloh, the Director, Directorate of Colleges of Education Affiliation, Prof. Ebenezer Owusu Sekyere, the Director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research, Prof. Abubakari Abdulai, the Director of the UDS Business Directorate, Mr. Yakubu Balma, a member of the UDS Governing Council, Dr. Mohammed Mustapha Seidu and some senior members of the University as well as staff of ASIB Limited, the construction company.

When the committee is inaugurated, it will have up to a month to present its report to Management.
